A house filled with 16 people caught fire Friday morning about 5:30 a.m. in Paso Robles.
Residents of the home along Cool Valley Road — which had been occupied only since May — plus their visiting relatives were alerted to the fire by popping sounds, according to the Paso Robles Fire Department.
They fled the house after trying to put out the fire with a garden hose, fire officials said.
Firefighters arrived to find the home’s attic engulfed, and contained the fire in 90 minutes.
The dollar-value losses and cause of the blaze are being investigated. The American Red Cross is helping the family with temporary shelter, fire officials said.
