A Northern California man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a fight in front of Alex Bar-B-Q in Shell Beach early Sunday morning.

Multiple people got into a fight outside the restaurant and bar at 853 Shell Beach Road at 2 a.m. Sunday, according to police. There had been a verbal fight inside the bar earlier in the night, and a physical fight later occurred outside.

After the first fight outside, Aaron Shank, 28, and Nick Campbell, 28, got into another fight, according to police. Shank, of Alderpoint, then allegedly stabbed Campbell, of Modesto.

Campbell was taken to Arroyo Grande Community Hospital for treatment and is listed in stable condition.

Shank was booked into County Jail, where he remained Tuesday morning in lieu of $500,000 bail.

In May 2007, a man died after a fight outside Alex Bar-B-Q. Gregory Mascorro, 30, died from a brain hemorrhage after he and Jeremy Lee Hollis were involved in a fist-fight outside the bar. The pair had reportedly argued inside the bar, possibly over a pool game, before they went outside.

Witness reports differ over how the fight ended, with some saying Hollis slammed Mascorro's head onto the ground while others said the drunken pair fell to the ground and toppled over each other.

Hollis was sentenced in April to eight years in prison for involuntary manslaughter and an unrelated rape case. Moresco's family later filed a lawsuit against Hollis and Alex Bar-B-Q, saying the restaurant's employees had a responsibility to protect Mascorro from harm and that the bouncers or security guards did not do their job.
