Biz Buzz: Lumber Liquidators is moving in

Lumber Liquidators, a company with 170 stores nationwide, is coming to San Luis Obispo.

The company has leased a 5,000-square-foot building at 170 Suburban Road and should start making tenant improvements in the next couple of weeks, said Preston Thomas of Rossetti Co., which leased the space.

Headquartered in Toano, Va., Lumber Liquidators is the largest specialty retailer of hardwood flooring in the United States. The company offers more than 150 varieties of flooring, including hardwood, bamboo, cork and laminate.

Founded by Tom Sullivan, it started in 1994 by selling surplus wood behind a trucking and warehousing company outside Boston.

The company’s customers are contractors, builders and individuals, many of whom are do-it-yourselfers, according to a company announcement.

Flooring from Lumber Liquidators has been seen on: “HGTV Design Star,” “Extreme Makeover, Home Edition,” “Bob Vila’s Home Again,” “This Old House” and “HGTV 2007 Dream Home,” according to the company.
