It is believed she is traveling with Bradford Mitchell, who police believe traveled from Michigan to San Luis Obispo to meet with her. They may now be en route to Michigan.
Mitchell is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, 187 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes.
San Luis Obispo Police Department officials say they’re currently gathering information on Mitchell – including a search into whether he has a criminal record.
Capt. Chris Staley said the department is hoping to release a photo of Mitchell and officials are in the process of finding one. Police believe the girl left voluntarily with Mitchell, but are concerned about her safety.
Staley said it’s very unusual for a 16-year-old girl to be traveling with a stranger 36 years older. Police believe the girl met Mitchell online and some of her friends said she was thinking of changing her hair to blonde. But authorities aren’t sure if she has done that or not.
The girl has been missing since Monday and her family is very concerned about her, Staley said.
“We’re concerned for her well-being,” Staley said. The girl is 5 feet 4 inches tall, 135 pounds and has brown hair and hazel eyes, although she may have cut her hair and dyed it blonde.
