Nipomo man suspected of child molestation may have killed himself

A Nipomo man arrested Tuesday on suspicion of child molestation bailed out of jail and then apparently killed himself, according to sheriff’s officials.

Michael John Dominguez, 52, was arrested at his business, Shine It Auto Detail, in Oceano at 5 p.m. Tuesday on suspicion of sex crimes against a 16-year-old male, according to authorities. The molestation reportedly began when the boy was 14 and continued for two years.

The victim told authorities of the alleged molestation Monday, said Rob Bryn, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department. Authorities said they may have met at Dominguez’s business.

Dominguez, a registered sex offender, was booked into County Jail on $250,000 bail. A relative paid bail at 11:33 p.m. Tuesday, and he was released.

At 9:13 a.m. Wednesday, Dominguez was found dead at his home at 1335 La Loma in Nipomo by a relative. Investigators believe the gunshot was self-inflicted.

Detectives are looking into whether Dominguez may have molested anyone else. Dominguez allegedly lured potential victims by giving them gifts, Bryn said.
