The monarch butterflies have returned to the Central Coast in their annual fall migration south. The Woodlands development on the Nipomo Mesa welcomed them with an event Saturday featuring a presentation by Cal Poly Professor Emeritus Kingston Leon, a butterfly biology and microclimates expert. Organizers estimated there were 8,740 butterflies in the Monarch Butterfly Overwintering Habitat.
