CHP officials warn public against DUI

CHP officials on Thursday wheeled out a battered Honda Accord reportedly involved in a fatal DUI crash in San Luis Obispo County last year to remind motorists of the dangers.

More than 217,000 people were arrested statewide last year on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the Justice Department.

A DUI conviction carries a $13,500 or greater penalty, jail time, loss of license and fines for a first offender, according to the CHP.
