Paso man who stabbed wife with kitchen knife gets eight years in prison

A Paso Robles man was sentenced today to eight years and eight months in state prison for stabbing his wife with a kitchen knife in April, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Richard Spafford, 52, received his sentence after entering pleas of no contest to felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment and criminal threats.

A no-contest plea results in a conviction without an admission of guilt.

Officers said Stafford stabbed his wife with an eight-inch-long kitchen knife.

She suffered cuts to her chin, finger and wrist. She was treated at the scene. Spafford was arrested at a basketball court near his home, police said.

A charge of attempted murder was dropped, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
