Hospital visitor policies change as flu spreads in San Luis Obispo County

Concerned over the spread of H1N1 and seasonal flu, some hospitals in San Luis Obispo County are revising their visitor policies by barring children and limiting the number of visitors per patient.

Effective this week, French Hospital in San Luis Obispo, Arroyo Grande Community Hospital, and Marian Medical Center in Santa Maria will only allow visitors 16 or older. Those visits are limited to two people at a time, according to Megan Maloney, spokeswoman for French Hospital.

Visitors must not show any flu-like symptoms. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis, Maloney said.
