Etta Waterfield's California Assembly bid wins more endorsements

Etta Waterfield has received two key endorsements in her battle to replace Sam Blakeslee in the California Assembly.

State Sen. Tony Strickland and Lew Uhler of the National Tax Limitation Committee both have thrown their support to Waterfield, a Santa Maria planning commissioner.

Atascadero City Councilwoman Roberta Fonzi earlier endorsed Waterfield, as did Santa Barbara County Supervisor Joe Centeno and Santa Maria Police Chief Danny Macagni.

Waterfield serves as coordinator of the Santa Maria Valley Economic Development Commission for the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce.

She has volunteered for numerous community projects, and was named the 2009 “Woman of the Year” for the 33rd Assembly District by Assemblyman Sam Blakeslee.

“Our state must have people who believe in small business, free enterprise and fiscal responsibility,” said Strickland. He called Waterfield “a committed conservative who will fight against higher taxes and fight for restrained government spending.”

“Just as important,” Strickland wrote in a news release, “Etta has a depth of experience helping small businesses grow and create jobs, and like me, she is committed to easing the heavy regulatory tax burdens on small businesses.”
