Some big oak trees along Vineyard Drive in Templeton are trimmed into U shapes to accommodate utility lines. Oaks don’t lose their leaves in fall, but other local trees — such as sycamores — change color and drop their leaves with the advent of the new season.

The autumnal equinox occurred at 2:18 p.m. Tuesday, marking the official start to fall.

Today’s temperatures will feel summerlike, however, with the high soaring over 100 degrees in Paso Robles.

The high in San Luis Obispo will be near 90, while coastal highs will range from the mid-60s to low 70s.
