All 131 sirens in the region’s Early Warning System will be tested on Tuesday and Wednesday. Each siren will individually undergo a low-growl test for a few seconds. No action is required by the public, the San Luis Obispo County Office of Emergency Services said.
The Early Warning System sirens were installed and are maintained as a requirement for the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant to operate. The sirens also can be used for any local emergency.
The sirens are installed from Cayucos south to the Nipomo Mesa, in an area that includes the Five Cites, Avila Bay, See Canyon, Squire Canyon, Price Canyon, Baywood Park/Los Osos, San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay.
