The 26th annual San Luis Obispo County Burn Relay is coming to town Thursday to benefit the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation.
Throughout the day, groups of local firefighters and equipment will make their way through the communities of Arroyo Grande, Atascadero, Cambria, Cayucos, Los Osos, Morro Bay, Nipomo, Paso Robles, San Miguel, San Luis Obispo, Santa Margarita and Templeton, with stops at 15 schools and ending with a fire prevention presentation at the Downtown San Luis Obispo Farmers Market.
Safety presentations are geared mainly toward children, but any member of the community is encouraged to participate, according to the Five Cities Fire Authority.
The relay is the largest fundraising event of the year for the organization, which is dedicated to burn prevention through education and burn survivor assistance, according to its website.

Interested parties can greet the firefighters as they parade through town, make a donation to the foundation, or provide a full or partial scholarship to send a burn-injured child to Champ Camp, a summer program held every June at Wonder Valley near Fresno. A donation of $750 provides a full scholarship that includes a week of activities and esteem-building exercises.
