In honor of National Fire Prevention Week, the San Luis Obispo Fire Department will hold an open house at Fire Station 1 on Saturday.
The event will include antique firefighting equipment, safety presentations and snacks, and is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the station, 2160 Santa Barbara Ave.
It will be preceded by a booth at the Thursday night Farmers Market in downtown San Luis Obispo on Chorro and Higuera streets.
The theme of this year’s fire safety awareness week, established in 1920 to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, is “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep. Every Bedroom Needs a Working Smoke Alarm!”
