A San Luis Obispo man fell asleep behind the wheel Sunday morning and drove off the road in Cayucos, hitting five parked cars and pushing the cars into two houses, according to CHP Officer Brad Mallory.
At 8:05 a.m., Roberto Covey, 35, of San Luis Obispo was traveling south on Highway 1 in a Ford Edge SUV when he fell asleep and drove off the west side of the road, Mallory said.
Covey drove through the perimeter fence onto Studio Drive, where he hit five parked cars, pushing two of the cars — an SUV and a truck — into the garages of two separate houses.
Moderate to major damage was caused to most of the parked cars, according to Mallory.
