To mark the start of Cal Poly’s annual Week of Welcome, the city of San Luis Obispo is enforcing its safety enhancement zone ordinance, which doubles certain fines during holidays or weeks synonymous with loud parties and alcohol.
Beginning at 12 a.m. Friday, municipal fines will be doubled for certain noise and alcohol-related offenses. Issuance of the special fines will end at 7 a.m. on Sept. 28.
During that period, fines for noise violations cost $300 for a first offense. Public urination, contributing to an unruly gathering of 20 or more people and possessing an open alcohol container will fetch a fine of $700 for a first offense. Being drunk in public will result in arrest and a fine of $507, hosting an unruly gathering will cost $1,000 and hosting a party where minors are consuming alcohol will ring in at $1,527.
