A motorcycle crash Sunday evening on Highway 101 near the Higuera Street on-ramp claimed the life of a 35-year-old San Luis Obispo man.
Victor Hugo Padilla-Diaz was pronounced dead at the scene. It is not known if drugs or alcohol played a role in the single-vehicle crash.
At about 6 p.m., Padilla-Diaz was riding a 1999 Yamaha R6 motorcycle north on Highway 101 near the Higuera Street on-ramp at a high rate of speed, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Investigators said Padilla-Diaz failed to negotiate the curved roadway and his motorcycle drifted into the center median. The motorcycle then hit a metal guardrail, and Padilla-Diaz was ejected from the bike, striking several wood posts.
