Man killed in motorcycle crash on Hwy. 46 West is identified

The CHP has identified an Arizona man killed in motorcycle accident on Highway 46 West and Vineyard Drive on July 16.

James Thomas O’Donnell III of Black Canyon, Ariz., was riding a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle behind two other motorcyclists and a semi-truck when the truck slowed to turn onto Vineyard Drive.

The two motorcyclists ahead of O’Donnell were able to avoid the big-rig and ride onto the shoulder, but O’Donnell swerved and crashed into the rear of the truck. His bike then spun and struck one of the motorcyclists on the side of the highway.

O’Donnell was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other motorcyclist was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. His condition was not immediately known Wednesday.

Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash.
