Correction: An earlier version of this story should have said that the hit-and-run happened at 9 p.m. June 13.
California Highway Patrol officials on Wednesday identified the man killed in a June 13 hit-and-run incident on Highway 101 in Nipomo as Ricardo Cruz, 31, whose last known address was in Santa Maria.
Authorities said the case has gone mostly cold and they hope that releasing the name of the victim, who was a Mexican national, could catch the attention of possible witnesses.
At about 9 p.m. June 13, the CHP received a report of an animal in the roadway near Tefft Street. When officers arrived they found Cruz’s body. CHP Officer J.W. Townsend said investigators believe Cruz was walking along the side of the highway and was hit by several vehicles.

Townsend said the coroner had to identify Cruz through fingerprints due to the extent of his injuries.
Anyone with information is asked to call the CHP at 593-3311.
