United Way of San Luis Obispo County is bringing back KidSpree, an annual event where children in need go on a $100 shopping spree for back-to-school clothes.
The event, planned for Aug. 2, will bring children from kindergarten through 12th grade to Kohl’s stores in Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo before the retailer opens to the public. United Way is partnering with local nonprofits and government social services agencies to nominate which children participate. Last year, 250 children were sponsored to shop.
The public can help by volunteering or donating. Volunteer shopping assistants who pair up with the kids are needed as well as helpers for setup and check-in. The deadline to sign up to volunteer is July 29. The San Luis Obispo County YMCA screens volunteers by offering fingerprinting.
Donations are also needed to provide the kids with a $100 shopping gift cards.
