A 55-year-old San Luis Obispo resident died in a paragliding accident Friday after he crash-landed in an open field in Cayucos east of Highway 1, according to a San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office news release.
At 1:05 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a witness who reported the accident. The witness stated that the victim was paragliding when he seemed to have some difficulty and crashed into the ground, according to the news release.
The field was about 200 yards south of the Cal Fire station on Chaney Avenue in Cayucos.
The man was taken by ambulance to a local emergency room and was pronounced dead by hospital staff shortly after. The news release stated that there is no indication of foul play, or alcohol or drugs involved in the accident.

The county Coroner’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident. A spokesman from the Sheriff’s Office said Friday night that an autopsy should be completed sometime next week.
Sheriff’s officials aren’t releasing the victim’s name, pending notification of next of kin.
