SLO AngelCon pitch contest will award more than $100,000 to one of these 6 startups
Update, April 25, 9:30 a.m.: The Cal Poly Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) Small Business Development Center (SBDC) announced that the pitch competition raised a total of $205,000 and chose to invest in two startups.
AcreCloud was awarded 135,000 in equity investment as the winner of AngelCon 2022, organizers said in a news release. The runner up, Novocuff, also received an investment totaling 70,000.
“After two years of AngelCon being a virtual event, we were so thankful to have the companies, the investors and the business community available to finally attend in person,” remarks Judy Mahan, CIE economic development director, in the release. “The combination of Medtech and Agtech winning the event truly speaks to the innovation that our business community is fostering here in Central California.”
Original: A startup business pitch competition that will award more than $100,000 in equity-backed funding to the winner will be held Thursday in San Luis Obispo — with registration available to anyone who wishes to attend or watch online.
AngelCon 2022 takes place Thursday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at SLO Brew Rock at 855 Aerovista Lane, where one of six startups will be chosen for financial backing by more than 25 investors. The event will be streamed on YouTube Live.
AngelCon is hosted by the Cal Poly Center for Innovation for Entrepreneurship (CIE) Small Business Development Center.
The competition includes companies made up of recent Cal Poly grads, proven entrepreneurs and seasoned professionals, according to Kristin Mehiel, an AngelCon coordinator. The finalist companies are primarily based on the Central Coast, but range from Santa Barbara County to the Bay Area, Mehiel said.
Here are the six competing startups and a look at their innovations:
▪ AcreCloud: A farm-management platform that offers growers and contractors customized control over their operations, auditing capabilities, and access to new products.
▪ ARTIFEX Technologies: Building a custom measuring tool that converts distance measurements taken on-site by construction professionals into Computer Aided Design-ready floor plans.
▪ Milo Sensors: Created ION Wearable, the first discrete continuous alcohol monitor, providing continuous support and accountability.
▪ NEXT Life Sciences: Develops and distributes medical technology that empowers people to choose when and if to have a child.
▪ Novocuff: Designing a minimally invasive, non-surgical device that will help prevent preterm birth.
▪ TRIC Robotics: Provides farmers with an alternative for pesticides that is “equally effective and chemical-free.”
You can livestream the event for free by signing up for a virtual pass or attend in-person for $75, which includes networking and dinner.
