Peoples' Self-Help Housing is accepting pre-applications for its new Rolling Hills II affordable housing development in Templeton starting Monday.
The non-profit is adding 30 new one- to three-bedroom apartments to the existing Rolling Hills Apartments on Las Tablas Road.
The apartments are for households earning up to 60 percent of the area median income. San Luis Obispo County’s area household median income is $76,400, according to 2016 data from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Rent will be based on bedroom size and unit size. According to previous Tribune reports, eight of the 30 units will be reserved for Section 8 residents, who earn 50 percent or less of the area median income and have a portion of their rent subsidized by the federal government. Rent for the remaining units will be lower than market rate.
The new construction includes laundry facilities, a barbecue area and "tot lot" (a small playground for young children).
It is expected to be completed this summer.
Applicants will be selected during a public lottery drawing in April.
To be eligible, pre-applications must be received or postmarked by April 6. Applications received after that date will go on a wait list.
