The man seeking to unseat veteran California Sen. Dianne Feinstein is coming to San Luis Obispo.
Kevin de Leon, D-Los Angeles, the state Senate leader who recently prevented Feinstein from securing the California Democratic Party endorsement, is mounting an underdog challenge to the left of Feinstein in the 2018 midterm election. He’ll be among the speakers at the San Luis Obispo County Democratic Party Convention on Saturday.
De Leon joins fellow Democrats U.S. Rep. Salud Carbajal, State Sen. Bill Monning, county supervisors Bruce Gibson and Adam Hill, San Luis Obispo Mayor Heidi Harmon “and a big lineup of other candidates for local and statewide offices at this major gathering of county Democrats and Progressives,” according to a party statement.
The convention will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Guild Hall, 2880 Broad St.

The convention also will include workshops on running for office, working for a campaign, grassroots organizing, labor issues and others. Local clubs and organizations will also host booths.
The event is co-sponsored by the SLO County Democratic Party and the Cal Poly Democrats, with lead organizer and student Annie Campbell, who will intern for Carbajal, making the event her senior project.
