Krystal Jongsma, 16, has been missing since Tuesday morning in the Vandenberg Village area.

A ground and air search occurred in Vandenberg Village overnight in an effort to find a missing 16-year-old Lompoc girl.

Volunteers and the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department searched trails in the chaparral near Cabrillo High School late Tuesday night and early Wednesday in an effort to locate Krystal Jongsma.

Lompoc police said the girl was last seen at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday walking toward the library at Cabrillo High School.

However, she did not attend any of her classes Tuesday and was reported later in the day as missing.

She was last seen wearing dark-colored pants and a dark-colored sweatshirt while carrying an olive green backpack.

About a dozen people, along with a police dog and helicopter, reportedly searched for the girl, who remained missing as of Wednesday morning.

“We don’t have any updates at this point,” police Sgt. Kevin Martin said Wednesday. “It’s still being actively worked.”

Anyone who sees Krystal or knows her whereabouts can contact the Lompoc Police Department at 805-736-2341.
