A 4-inch main gas leak near Eucalyptus Road and Cardo Way in Nipomo forced residents to briefly evacuate the neighborhood Wednesday, according to Cal Fire.

About 1:30 p.m., a third-party contractor damaged the pipeline and SoCalGas was able to stop the flow of gas just after 3 p.m., said SoCalGas spokesperson Melissa Bailey.

Bailey said one home was briefly evacuated and residents were able to return at approximately 3:10 p.m. There were no natural gas service interruptions and permanent repairs to the damaged pipeline are in progress, Bailey said.

Traffic was temporarily rerouted away from Eucalyptus Street near Cardo Way, and the street was reopened about 3:10 pm.

No injuries were reported, Bailey said.
