The 42-year-old pedestrian killed Wednesday evening may have been drinking before he attempted to cross Foothill Boulevard, CHP spokesman Jordan Richards said.
“There was a strong odor of alcohol coming from him,” Richards said, noting that the incident is still under investigation.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the man did not appear to have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol, police said.
Richards said that according to statements from the driver, it appears the man ran across the road and was wearing all dark clothing and no reflective gear. The area where the accident occurred also had “limited lighting,” contributing to the driver’s inability to spot the man.
The identity of the victim is not being released pending notification of next of kin.
