Person found dead in Nipomo house fire has been identified

Update, 12:40 p.m.

The person found dead has been identified as Thomas Edward Gingell, 61, of Arroyo Grande, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office. An autopsy to determine the manner and cause of death has been scheduled for this week, the Sheriff’s Office said.

A Sunday morning house fire in Nipomo killed one person, and an arson investigator went to the scene to determine the cause and the origin of the blaze, according to Cal Fire.

The fire started about 7:30 a.m. on the 1800 block of Pomeroy Road, according to Cal Fire spokesman Chris Elms, and was reported as a fire with a person trapped inside the house.

When firefighters arrived, they found the second story of the approximately 2,000-square-foot home on fire, Elms said. Responders found one person dead inside the home. The fire was contained to the second story by about 8:20 a.m.
