Cal Fire SLO tweeted that all rescue boats and swimmers are out of the water and the search has been called off. No person was found, and the incident has been turned over to the Pismo Beach Police Department.

Authorities are responding to a report of a person in distress in the water near the Pismo Beach Pier about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, Pismo Beach Fire spokesman Chris Elms said.

Elms said he did not know how the person ended up in the water. Engines from Pismo Beach Fire and San Luis Obispo County Fire, and rescue boats from Morro Bay Coast Guard responded to the scene.

Elms said crews were still searching for the person as of 9:55 p.m.
