Arroyo Grande students rank in top 10 at two Lego robotics tournaments

Arroyo Grande

The Valley View Academy Lego Robotics team — an after-school extracurricular program — recently competed in Lego robotics tournaments.

Students in fifth through eighth grades competed for the first time this year under the direction of Robert Bishop.

At the tournament in Los Angeles, they took sixth place out of 27 teams, which qualified them for the national tournament in Sacramento. At the national tournament, they took fourth place.

San Luis Obispo

Bank Of The Sierra has awarded Mission Community Services Corp.’s Women’s Business Center with a $5,000 grant. The grant will help to fund existing Women’s Business Center programs offered in San Luis Obispo and Kern counties.

These programs include entrepreneurial training programs, monthly business workshops, and no-cost business consultations for potential and continuing entrepreneurs.

Caitlin Jane Parker of San Luis Obispo was awarded a master of biomedical science degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado, during commencement ceremonies in May.

Charlotte Reames of Templeton was awarded a bachelor of science degree in biology and biotechnology, with high distinction, from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts, during commencement ceremonies in May.

Paso Robles

Sarah Clark of Paso Robles was awarded a master’s degree from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, during commencement ceremonies in May.
