Looking for the purrfect workout? Cat yoga is coming to the Central Coast.
Woods Humane Society will offer its first Yoga with Cats class July 2 at its San Luis Obispo animal shelter. Leading the 90-minute, vinyasa-style session is Ash Rexford, the SLO Yoga Center instructor who co-organized last month’s Harry Potter Yoga in the Park event in San Luis Obispo.
As the name implies, cat yoga invites participants to stretch and bend their bodies in the presence of flexible felines. “We’re going to have a room full of cats,” all of them residents of the animal shelter that are up for adoption, Rexford said.
“Cats don’t like to be ignored, so they’ll probably come over and rub themselves on people,” Rexford said, which means plenty of chances to cuddle with kitties.

Only 20 spots are available for next month’s Yoga with Cats class, which is open to all levels and costs $20 to attend. Depending on the response, more cat yoga classes could be offered in the future, Rexford said.
