A small earthquake occurred about 7 miles west of Templeton on Thursday night, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The earthquake registered as a magnitude 2.7, and it happened about 8:55 p.m., according to initial reports from the USGS.

The USGS said its depth was about 3.2 miles.
