Paso Robles woman hurt in Highway 101 collision in North County

A Paso Robles woman suffered major injuries Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Wellsona Road and Highway 101 in the North County.

Tracy Huntergajdos, 38, was driving a 2002 GMC Envoy westbound on Wellsona Road around 12:58 p.m. and crossed northbound Highway 101 into the southbound lanes. Mark Cossairt, 59, of Lincoln was driving a Ford F-450 southbound on Highway 101 and collided with the right side of Huntergajdos’ vehicle as she drove across the road, according to a CHP news release.

Huntergajdos, who was rendered unconscious by the crash, had to be extricated from her vehicle and was transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center to be treated for major injuries. She sustained head trauma and rib and pelvic fractures.

Cossairt complained of chest pain, but refused hospital treatment. Vicky Cossairt, 56, who was a passenger in Mark Cossairt’s truck at the time of the collision, sustained lacerations to her left foot and arm and complained of shoulder pain but also refused hospital treatment.

It’s unknown if Huntergajdos intended to merge onto southbound Highway 101 or drive across the road and continue westbound on Wellsona Road. The collision remains under investigation, but alcohol or drugs do not appear to have been a factor in the incident.
