Mid-State Fair seeks suggestions for new theme

The California Mid-State Fair is now accepting suggestions for the fair’s 2015 theme tagline.

The tagline should feature fair mascot Paso Pete and his sidekick, Sierra, and somehow relate to the idea of “southern hospitality,” according to a news release.

“Pete and Sierra are in search of a little Southern hospitality, complete with bayou adventures and explorations into the unique and spicy cuisine of the South,” Fair CEO Vivian Robertson said in the release.

Paso Pete was first featured in 2009 with the jungle theme, “Take a Ride on the Wild Side.”

Recent themes and their taglines include: “Endless Summer Fun” with a beach theme in 2010; “Mountains of Fun” with a mountain/ camping theme in 2011; Great “American Road Trip” with a Route 66 theme in 2012; “Start Spreading the News with a communication theme in 2013; and “Discover More,” celebrating the local area this year.

There is no limit to the number of entries per person.

The deadline to enter is Nov. 10, and entries will be accepted online at or can be mailed directly to the fair office at PO Box 8, Paso Robles, CA 93447.

The winning entry will receive a prize pack and passes for the 2015 event, which is set for July 22 to Aug. 2.
