Cal Poly and the local marketing organization Visit San Luis Obispo County are partnering to launch a new program called Poly Parent Adventures.

The program offers discount packages for parents to visit and explore local communities during Cal Poly’s Week of Welcome in mid-September.

As incoming Cal Poly students acquaint themselves with their new community, more than 5,000 parents can take advantage of discounted hotel stays, complimentary wine tastings, and vouchers for outdoor activity tours.

The program is valid and offered to parents Sept. 17-21, 2014.

The idea is that parents would be able to create a vacation with a one-, two- or three-day itinerary while helping to drive mid-week business to local the tourism industry.

Offerings include itinerary packages for culinary aficionados, culture seekers and coastal adventurists.

“We saw that there was a need for creating tourism itineraries for the parents, encouraging them to stay and play as they become familiar with all that our county has to offer,” said Stacie Jacob, chief executive officer of Visit San Luis Obispo County.
