William Swanson, chairman of Raytheon Co., has been elected the new chairman of the Cal Poly Foundation’s board of directors. Peter Oppenheimer, retiring senior vice president at Apple who served as the company’s CFO for 10 years, was elected to serve as vice chairman of the board.
Swanson, a 1973 graduate of Cal Poly in industrial engineering, has been a member of the Cal Poly Foundation board since its founding in 2006, according to a Cal Poly news release. He previously served as the board’s vice chair.
Oppenheimer, a 1985 graduate of Cal Poly in agricultural business, also has been a member of the Cal Poly Foundation board since its inception.
The Cal Poly Foundation was recognized by the National Association of College and University Business Officers as the second largest endowment nationally among all public masters-level universities. In addition, for the past 10 years the Cal Poly Foundation has ranked among the top 25 percent of university endowments for total average return, the news release said. The Cal Poly Foundation is ranked first among all 23 universities in the California State University system.
