Medical-supply business moving into old Paso Robles courthouse

The old Paso Robles courthouse on 10th Street, which the county sold nearly a year ago, has changed hands again and will become home to Wallace Home Medical Supplies.

Owner Trago Wallace says he closed the deal earlier this month and, if the permitting process through the Paso Robles City Council runs smoothly, could be open for business in early December.

Wallace sells such items as hospital beds, wheelchairs, wrist braces and oxygen supplies. He has an existing medical supply business in Paso Robles and says the move will enable him to triple the size of his showroom.

The county had a tough time selling the building at 549 10th St., which became vacant in 2008 with the opening of a new courthouse. The parcel includes a 3,185-square-foot building on a 15,682- square-foot lot. Two modular buildings also sit on the site.

The county tried twice — unsuccessfully — to sell the property. Finally, last year, Richard H. Lenz bought it for $377,500.

Wallace would not say how much he paid, but said Lenz did fix up the structure and sold it at a profit.
