Dr. Robert Turbow, a neonatologist who chairs the bioethics committee at Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria, has been named chief patient safety officer for Dignity Health’s Central Coast hospitals.
As such, Turbow will be responsible for preventing medical mishaps by evaluating and changing processes to improve patient safety.
He will chair a patient safety committee of nurses, doctors and administrators from the three Dignity hospitals.
A San Luis Obispo resident, Turbow is active with Congregation Beth David and has been a volunteer faculty member of Cal Poly for 17 years.

Dignity became the owner of the hospitals earlier this year, taking over operations from Catholic Healthcare West.
