The owners of Really Right Stuff — a San Luis Obispo company that makes camera support equipment — are moving their offices to a new building near the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport.
Joe and Joan Johnson recently bought the building at 1146 Farmhouse Lane for $2.7 million, said Charley Senn, the Anderson Commercial Real Estate broker who closed the deal last week. The building, constructed by J.W. Design & Construction, is a 10,000-square-foot shell designed to be 20,000 square feet, Senn said. The 5-acre parcel is expandable up to 90,000 square feet.
Since 2004, Really Right Stuff has been located in a 5,400-square-foot space at 205 Higuera St.
With 16 employees, the company makes tripods, ballheads, off-camera flashes and other camera support equipment for professional and serious amateur photographers.
Joe Johnson, a Really Right Stuff customer and avid photographer who bought the company in 2002 from founder and county resident Bryan Geyer, said the new space allows the company to expand. Johnson declined to disclose annual revenues, but in the past five years, the company’s revenues have just about doubled, he said.
When the Johnsons bought it from Geyer, the couple operated out of their home in Los Osos for the first six months before moving to a facility in Los Osos for a year and a half. Then, they moved to the Higuera Street space, which they’ve now outgrown.
At the new site, Johnson noted that grading improvements are needed as well as a paved parking lot. He declined to disclose the cost of proposed improvements.
“There’s a significant amount of work that has to be done, including putting in a second floor and all the standard tenant improvements,” he said.
Johnson’s hope is to be able to move into the building by the end of this summer.
