One of the richest men in the world owns Halter Ranch, a 900-acre ranch and vineyard on Adelaida Road on the west side of Paso Robles.
Now Hansjörg Wyss is set to make a lucrative deal with Johnson & Johnson, the multinational pharmaceutical and medical devices giant.
Wyss is selling his prosthetic company, Synthes Inc., to Johnson & Johnson for $21.3 billion in cash and stock.
Shareholders approved the merger in December, and the deal is expected to close in June, pending regulatory approval.
Wyss, whose estimated net worth is $8.1 billion, made Forbes Magazine’s list of billionaires at No. 113 even before the deal with Johnson & Johnson. He placed No. 2 on the list in his native Switzerland.
According to Forbes, Wyss was to retire as chairman of Synthes Inc. in April to focus his philanthropy efforts on bioengineering and conservation.
