Microbrewery set for Atascadero

Construction is under way on an old office space near the Sunken Gardens in Atascadero for the Molly Pitcher Brewing Co., set to open in April.

The brew pub is at 6760 El Camino Real in Atascadero and will feature about 15 specialty craft and microbrewed beers, five of which will be brewed on site. Owner Kendall Bryson has been brewing beer for more than five years.

“We are an American bar, and we want to reflect American history,” Bryson said. “Aside from our own handcrafted beers, we’ll offer beers like Dogfish Head, Deschutes and Lagunitas that are all made in the United States.”

The pub is named after an organization of women that, in 1922, opposed the prohibition of alcoholic beverages.

The women called themselves The Molly Pitcher Club in honor of a nickname that is said to have been given to women who carried water to men on the battlefield during the American Revolution.

The 2,000-square-foot bar is planned to accommodate 49 people inside and several more on the outside patio.

“There’s still a lot of remodeling that needs to be done, and we’re doing most of it ourselves,” Bryson said.
