Crazy Sushi Fever, a Japanese fusion-style restaurant, will open at 8050 El Camino Real in the space that was once home to Big Bubba’s Bad BBQ.
Business partners Eric Ryu and J.J. Yi, both formerly of Sumo Sushi in San Luis Obispo, decided to join forces and open their own restaurant.
The longtime sushi chefs describe the dishes they will be offering as sushi with a unique flair.
“We’re putting a twist on traditional Japanese food and making it a little different,” Ryu said. “It’s not going to be traditional fish with the same traditional sauces.”

The 3,495-square-foot restaurant is undergoing an extensive makeover that will take it from the laid-back BBQ joint it used to be and turn it into a sleek restaurant.
“We are putting in a new kitchen system, new floors and a new sushi bar,” Ryu said.
The $170,000 construction project is estimated to be completed in March.
