Wine exporting seminar set for next week

Wineries looking to start or expand international exporting can attend a free seminar Thursday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Galaxy Theatres in Atascadero.

“The Asian market is huge and exploding,” said Israel Dominguez, director of the Business & Entrepreneurship Center at Cuesta College, the event’s host. “The Central Coast wine region has been underrepresented in terms of exports, so we’re trying to stimulate exports.”

Half a dozen presenters will speak, including one from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Services, who will video conference in from Hong Kong. Each offers support for wineries selling to foreign markets. Attendees will be able to learn how to navigate the logistics of international sales, such as customs, insurance and financing.

Other organizations represented include the U.S. Department of Commerce and Export-Import Bank of the United States.
