As construction nears an end on the 10,000-square-foot Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market on Broad Street in San Luis Obispo, the company announced this week it is hiring employees.

Fresh & Easy is recruiting on Twitter (@FandEcareers) and is also accepting applications on its website at www.freshandeasy.com/joinus.

“Between 25 and 30 people will be hired at the San Luis Obispo store to work as customer assistance associates, team leaders and store managers,” said Brendan Wonnacott, communications director for Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market.

Based in El Segundo, the Fresh & Easy grocery store chain is owned by the United Kingdom’s largest retailer, Tesco.

The U.S.-based Fresh & Easy chain promotes itself as selling fresh, high-quality prepared foods as well as standard grocery products.

The company also bills itself as environmentally friendly and claims to use 30 percent less energy than a typical grocery store.

The San Luis Obispo store is set to open in January or February. It’s one of 20 new stores scheduled to open early next year. In all, the company expects to hire more than 600 employees for stores in California and Nevada.

Fresh & Easy opened in the U.S. in 2007 and has more than 184 stores in California, Arizona and Nevada. The nearest to San Luis Obispo is in Orcutt.
