Construction is nearly complete on the 15,000-square-foot mixed-used building at 1308 Monterey St. in San Luis Obispo. Some tenants moved in last week.
The $2 million structure, dubbed The Mix at Monterey, is a four-story, 14-unit building with four retail spaces on the ground floor, five office spaces on the second floor and five rent or lease to own apartments on the top floor.
Before the construction project began in November 2010, an abandoned Unocal service station was located there.
Developers say the new project pays homage to the past, while energy efficient designs have also been incorporated into the building.
Builders wanted the building to once again function as an energy provider, as it did in the past, while at the same time having a new architectural look.
“It’s attracted a lot of attention,” said lead architect George Garcia, of Garcia Architecture and Design.
Four of the five residences at the building have been rented, bought or leased. Four of the five office spaces have been rented. The four retail spaces on the ground floor are still available, although Garcia said negotiations are in the works.
