Grocery Outlet bringing jobs, shopping choices to Atascadero

Grocery Outlet, a discount grocery store chain, is set to open at the Mission Oaks Shopping Center located at 2300 El Camino Real in Atascadero.

The Berkeley-based company offers shoppers name-brand products at up to a 40-percent discount.

“If you look how retail is going in general, you see that people are very value conscious,” said John Wilson, a co-owner of the Mission Oaks center. “We thought a grocery component would be a great addition to the shopping center.

“There is such easy access to the highway from that location that we expect to get customers from the entire North County.”

The store is scheduled to begin the hiring process in mid-October. The company suggests that people interested in applying for positions like managers, cashiers and stockers should check ads in The Tribune and on Craigslist.

Between 25 and 30 people are needed to work at the 20,000-square-foot store.

There are 76 Grocery Outlets in California and a total of 155 located throughout six Western states.
