Mexican eatery set to open in Paso

A new restaurant featuring homemade tortillas and a menu of fresh tacos, sandwiches and roasted chicken is slated to open in Paso Robles later this fall.

La Reyna Market Tortilleria is set to go in the former Burger King space on Black Oak Drive, a block off 24th Street.

A remodel of the interior is under way. The 3,100-square-foot space is being designed with a Spanish décor.

Some market foods will also be for sale there.

The owners are Gary Pederson of Avila Beach and Salvador Ramos of Atascadero. The pair also owns Paso Robles’ La Reyna Market & Deli on North 24th Street, which opened in 2008, and the El Pastor taco kiosk at the same location, which opened in 2009.

“La reyna means ‘the queen,’ which in Spanish tradition means, ‘The very best,’ ” Pederson said. The market will feature a walk-in counter, drive-through window, a wine and beer bar, indoor seating and a fenced-in patio for outdoor dining. Live music is also planned for Fridays and Saturdays.

The business could open as soon as Thanksgiving, the owners said.
