Speaker to discuss doing ‘right thing’

Cal Poly’s Orfalea College of Business Distinguished Speaker Series will feature a free presentation today dubbed, “Business Ethics: Doing the Right Thing Can Be a Competitive Advantage.”

Wendy Hallgren, vice president of corporate compliance for Fluor Inc., will speak from 2:10 to 3:10 p.m. in the university’s Spanos Theatre. Fluor is a Fortune 500 company specializing in international engineering, procurement, construction, maintenance and project management.

Hallgren has a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School. Prior to moving to corporate compliance, Hallgren was in Fluor’s legal department.

The company is No. 5 on Fortune’s 2011 list of the World’s Most Admired Companies in the engineering, construction industry. Ethisphere magazine has named Fluor one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies for five straight years.
