A new restaurant with a familiar name and location is set to open this fall in Atascadero.
Denny’s restaurant, at 6910 El Camino Real, is currently undergoing a complete remodel in anticipation of opening toward the end of October.
The new all-night diner will be located in the same spot as Atascadero’s former Denny’s, which until closing in 2009 had been there since 1974.
Bob’s Big Boy had plans in fall 2010 to occupy the space, but by May 2011 the leasing agent said the tenant was no longer part of the project.

The new Denny’s owner, Ali Tabrizi, said he became interested in purchasing the building as soon as its status went from for lease to for sale. He owns a chain of Denny’s franchises from Santa Maria to King City.
Tabrizi went on to say the newly developed Colony Square with its anchor 10-screen theater complex helped cement his decision to purchase the building and open his seventh Denny’s restaurant.
Tabrizi wouldn’t comment on the cost of the remodel, saying only, “It’s not going to be inexpensive. It’s expensive.”
When the project is complete, the 4,000-square-foot restaurant will have new carpet, tables, booths, artwork and lighting. Tabrizi said the entire inside of the restaurant is being redone.
Tabrizi plans to hire more than 40 employees. Applications are being accepted at the Denny’s in Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo.
