The Neon Carrot, the popular San Luis Obispo eatery owned by Maegen and Jeff Loring, has closed for breakfast and lunch.
“We have some family things going on, and we had to relook at what we’re doing,” Maegen Loring said.
She said she is caring for her aging father, who is moving in with family.
“I had to take a look at how I was spending my time,” she added.

The Neon Carrot will continue to be open Friday nights for happy hour, and Loring will focus on her catering business as well. A second night or two — for a market dinner or paella night — may be added at some point in the future.
For now, the restaurant will be open from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Fridays.
The Neon Carrot employed about eight people, and most of them will continue to work in the catering business and at the restaurant.
The Lorings launched The Neon Carrot on South Higuera Street in May 2010. They had previously operated The Park, an upscale restaurant located at Railroad Square, for seven years before closing in 2009 due to economic concerns.
Maegen Loring said that isn’t the case with The Neon Carrot, noting that business is healthy.
“When I do something, I want to make sure that I’m doing it right,” she said. “It was a hard decision to make, but I feel like it was the right decision.”
